Southern University partners with BREC Baton Rouge Zoo for Krewe de Zoo for second year

Southern University and A&M College is partnering with BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo for Krewe de Zoo, a family-friendly fundraising campaign that blends Carnival tradition with animal care, education and conservation.

Now in its second year, Krewe de Zoo invites the Southern University community to participate by purchasing Mardi Gras-themed hang tags featuring Lacumba III, the University’s beloved jaguar and a proud symbol of Jaguar Nation.

By purchasing a hang tag, students, faculty, staff and supporters can show their Southern pride while directly supporting the Zoo’s animal care and conservation efforts. Each tag represents community support and will be displayed to highlight collective participation.

Hang tags are available for $1, while yard signs can be purchased for $50. Proceeds from the campaign benefit animal care, education and conservation programs at the Baton Rouge Zoo.

Hang tags will be displayed at the Southern University Bookstore and the BREC Baton Rouge Zoo.

Tags and yard signs may be purchased at the following locations:

The campaign will conclude on Mardi Gras Day, when Lacumba III and other featured animals will enjoy Mardi Gras-themed enrichment activities and treats, offering the Southern University community a festive and meaningful way to celebrate the season.

Members of the campus community are encouraged to join the krewe, celebrate tradition and support conservation efforts while showing their Jaguar pride.
