Out of State Fee Waiver

Jaguar Out-of-State Fee Waiver

Southern University and A&M College aims to fully pursue the University's mission by strongly supporting its efforts of providing a high quality global educational experience to its students.  A full out-of-state fee waiver will be granted to all qualified incoming freshman who graduated from a high school from any state in the USA or new Transfer student, who meets the following criteria:

Eligibility

  • Incoming Freshmen:
  • Satisfy the admissions requirements.
  • Have a 2.75 cumulative final high school grade point average or ACT score of 24 or SAT 1160-1190.
  • Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • First-time, First-Semester students must have and maintain a minimum of full-time credit hours each semester and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75; to be evaluated at the end of the semester.
  • Have not received the waiver more than eight (8) times previously.

    A committee may hear any fee waiver appeals to a student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 who has demonstrated a financial need as indicated on the FASFA form or upon a university community member's recommendation. The email should include details related to the student's participation in extracurricular activities, current leadership role(s), active community service, etcetera.  The Chancellor and/or Vice Chancellor of Enrollment shall approve all waiver recommendations made by the committee. To apply for a waiver, the student must email subrenrollmentmgt@sus.edu with the information above.  The subject line of this email must read "Out of State Fee Waiver."

New Transfer Students

  • Satisfy the admissions requirements.
  • Have a 2.75 cumulative final transfer grade point average.
  • Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Transfer students must have and maintain a minimum of full-time credit hours each semester and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75; to be evaluated at the end of the semester.
  • Have not received the waiver more than eight (8) times previously.

Notes

Fee waiver does not cover Summer session and can be retained for up to eight (8) semesters total. The Out-of-State Fee Waiver covers all qualified first-time freshmen and transfer students; effective Fall 2024

Legacy Award (Out-of-State Fee Waiver Supplement)

The Legacy Award is granted to applicants if a biological parent is a graduate of Southern University and A&M College. An incoming freshman or transfer who does not meet the standard requirements of the Out of State Fee Waiver, can apply for the Legacy Award.  The applicant will qualify to have their out-of-state fees reduced by 100%.
