Post-Master’s Certificate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
The Post-Master’s Certificate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMC PMHNP) Program at Southern University prepares master’s-prepared nurses to expand their expertise in mental health care across the lifespan. Building on the School of Nursing’s longstanding commitment to academic excellence and a diverse healthcare workforce, the program emphasizes advanced psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and individual, group, and family psychotherapy.
Delivered through a hybrid, cohort-based format, the program consists of four semesters, 21 credit hours, and 510 practicum hours. The curriculum integrates advanced coursework with supervised clinical experiences focused on adult and pediatric populations, preparing nurses to provide evidence-based, culturally responsive psychiatric-mental health care.
The PMC PMHNP Program strengthens Southern University’s commitment to addressing healthcare workforce needs and expanding access to mental health services, particularly in underserved communities.
