PRAXIS Preparation, Support, and Testing Assistance
The School of Education is committed to helping candidates prepare for and successfully complete required PRAXIS examinations through preparation workshops, financial support opportunities, and ongoing guidance throughout the certification process.
Preparation Resources
PRAXIS preparation workshops and courses are offered to support candidates across required PRAXIS exams and certification areas. Additional online preparation support is available through 240Tutoring and Study.com.
For additional preparation support or guidance on PRAXIS testing requirements, students are encouraged to connect with the PRAXIS Coordinator.
PRAXIS Support and Voucher Programs
Course Based Vouchers
Certain School of Education courses provide PRAXIS exam vouchers connected to required certification testing. These vouchers help reduce testing costs for candidates progressing through their teacher preparation program.
PRAXIS Voucher Exchange Program
Students who receive vouchers they no longer need may donate them through the PRAXIS Exchange Program. This may occur when students pass an exam on the first attempt or receive a voucher that does not match their certification area. Donated vouchers may then be redistributed to other candidates who still need testing support.
PRAXIS Reimbursement Process
Candidates who pay for an eligible PRAXIS exam out of pocket and successfully pass may request reimbursement through the School of Education.
Required Documents
- Praxis payment receipt
- Copy of official Praxis score report
- Completed Direct Deposit Form
- If you have previously received a disbursement from the Foundation Office, provide the last four digits of your Social Security Number
- If you have not previously received a Foundation disbursement, you must provide your full Social Security Number

Processing Timeline
Once all documents are received, the School of Education will submit the reimbursement request to Academic Affairs for additional signatures within five business days.
Payment Disbursement
The Southern University Foundation Office issues payments twice monthly on the 15th and 30th. Your reimbursement date will depend on when signed paperwork is returned from Academic Affairs.
ETS Free After 3
Through an initiative supported by ETS and state education partners, candidates who take the same PRAXIS exam three times without passing may become eligible for a free retake voucher.
- First attempt must occur on or after October 1, 2025
- The three attempts must be for the same PRAXIS test
- Vouchers are test specific and valid for six months
- Future retake support may remain available within a five year eligibility window
Candidates should watch for communication from ETS after their third qualifying attempt and may contact the PRAXIS Coordinator for guidance.
