Residency Overview ▶

Effective July 1, 2019, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) requires all teacher candidates to complete a two-semester, consecutive, year-long residency (Residency I and II).

Supervision includes:

Residency Office
School-based mentor teacher
Residency school site principal or designee
SUBR faculty member

Requirements Prior to Teacher Residency I ▶

PRAXIS Requirements ▶

Attempt all PRAXIS II exams (Content Knowledge + PLT).
Praxis dates: ETS Praxis Louisiana

Residency I Application & Meeting ▶

Submit Residency I application by the semester prior to Residency I.
Attend the mandatory Residency I meeting.

Resident Teacher Certificate ▶

Certificate is valid for one school year and allows up to 10 substitute days per semester. Substitute hours count toward Residency I.

GPA Requirements ▶

Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
Minimum 2.5 major GPA

Special Notes on Year‑Long Residency Requirements ▶

Applies to candidates who had not completed program requirements as of Jan 1, 2018:

Programs approved before Oct 1, 2016 had a final admission date of Jan 1, 2018.
Students had to enroll in coursework during 2017–2018.
