Effective July 1, 2019, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) requires all teacher candidates to complete a two-semester, consecutive, year-long residency (Residency I and II).
Supervision includes:
- Residency Office
- School-based mentor teacher
- Residency school site principal or designee
- SUBR faculty member

- Attempt all PRAXIS II exams (Content Knowledge + PLT).
- Praxis dates: ETS Praxis Louisiana
- Submit Residency I application by the semester prior to Residency I.
- Attend the mandatory Residency I meeting.
Certificate is valid for one school year and allows up to 10 substitute days per semester. Substitute hours count toward Residency I.
- Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
- Minimum 2.5 major GPA

- A+PEL
- LAE
- LAHPERD
- Kappa Delta Pi
Applies to candidates who had not completed program requirements as of Jan 1, 2018:
- Programs approved before Oct 1, 2016 had a final admission date of Jan 1, 2018.
- Students had to enroll in coursework during 2017–2018.
